Organising a corporate outing sounds simple, until you suddenly have to think about calendars, dietary wishes, group size, weather, budgets and colleagues who are “not really into organised fun”. No worries. We do this all the time.
At Inside Rotterdam, we organise corporate outings, tours and programmes in Rotterdam that are well arranged, but never feel standard. By bike, on foot, with tastings, rooftops, stories, local entrepreneurs or a fully tailor-made programme.
Below, we answer the questions we often receive.
An original corporate outing in Rotterdam lets you experience the city in a different way. Not just passing the obvious highlights with a guide reciting dates. That rarely changes anyone’s life.
Think of a bike tour through the contrasts of the city, a food tour with Rotterdam tastings, a rooftop experience or a tailor-made programme with lunch, drinks or dinner. Rotterdam works well for this because it is not just a backdrop. It is a city full of stories: post-war reconstruction, architecture, the port, migration, entrepreneurship and a few rough edges.
At Inside Rotterdam, a corporate outing is not about ticking off as many highlights as possible. It is about looking at the city differently, and sometimes, quietly, at each other too.
That depends on the type of programme. Small groups are often the most personal, but larger groups are perfectly possible, as long as they are organised properly.
For larger groups, we usually work with several guides and split the group into smaller subgroups. This keeps the experience personal, allows space for questions and creates a better atmosphere. Nobody wants to trail behind one guide with 60 people while only the first three can hear what is being said.
For bike tours, food tours and walking tours, we look at group size, route, safety, food stops and timing. Based on that, we create a proposal that works in practice. So not just: “Yes, of course.” More like: “Yes, and this is how we keep it enjoyable.”
The costs depend on the programme, group size, duration, number of guides, tastings, food and drinks, and any extras such as a water taxi, lunch, drinks or dinner.
A simple private tour is different from a full afternoon programme with several elements. That is why we usually create a proposal based on your wishes. This way, you know exactly what is included and what is not.
We try to be clear about this. No vague surprises afterwards, no tiny small print that requires detective work. If you would like an indication, send us the number of people, preferred date, available time and the kind of atmosphere you are looking for. We will think along from there.
The earlier, the better, especially in busy months such as May, June, September and October. These are popular months for corporate outings, team days and international groups.
For smaller groups, last-minute requests are sometimes still possible. For larger groups or programmes with food and drinks, several guides or special locations, more
preparation time is needed. It allows us to book the right guides, plan a good route and reserve suitable locations.
Our advice: get in touch as soon as you have a date or even a rough period in mind. Even if not everything is fixed yet. That way, we can already think along and help avoid a last minute scramble. Possible? Sometimes. Relaxing? Not usually.
Yes, absolutely. Combining a tour with lunch, drinks or dinner is often a very good idea. It turns the outing into a complete programme instead of a loose activity squeezed into the day.
For example, we can start with a bike tour or walking tour, add a tasting along the way and end at a restaurant, drinks location or rooftop. Combinations with water taxi, port stories, architecture, street art or food are also possible.
We like working with local entrepreneurs and places that match the atmosphere of the group. So no generic package if something more personal is possible. Well organised, of course, because “we’ll just see what happens” is charming until 38 hungry people are standing outside wondering what the plan is.
Our corporate outings are suitable for teams, departments, international groups, management teams, clients, partners and organisations looking for something with a little more substance than “let’s just do an activity and have drinks afterwards”.
We organise programmes for smaller teams from around 10 people, but also for larger groups. With larger groups, we usually work with several guides and split the group into smaller subgroups, so the experience stays personal, clear and enjoyable.
Most programmes work well for mixed groups: people who know Rotterdam well, people visiting for the first time, sporty colleagues, less sporty colleagues and those who say in advance that they are “not really tour people”. We usually manage to win that last group over too.
Yes. In fact, many of our corporate outings are partly or fully tailor-made.
Sometimes it starts with a simple question: “We are looking for something fun in Rotterdam for 25 colleagues.” Sometimes the request is more specific: international guests, a certain theme, a start location at the office, an end location at a restaurant or a
programme that needs to fit between two meetings.
We help with the route, timing, group division, content, food and drinks, and practical feasibility. And we are honest about it. Not everything that looks good on paper works well in real life. Five stops, three transfers, drinks, a speech and a group photo in 90 minutes? Probably not our finest idea. We will make it smarter.
For international colleagues, a tour or experience in Rotterdam works very well. The city is visually strong, easy to explore and full of stories that go far beyond “look, a nice building”.
A bike tour, food tour or rooftop experience gives international guests a quick and engaging sense of the city. They see the river Maas, modern architecture, post-war reconstruction, local neighbourhoods and places they would not easily find by themselves. By combining food, stories and encounters with local entrepreneurs, the programme becomes accessible even for people who do not know Rotterdam at all.
Our tours can be given in English and are suitable for international teams, incentives, conferences and business visitors. And yes, we can also explain why Rotterdam is so different from Amsterdam. It tends to come up.
Yes, but in a natural way. We will not make your team do awkward trust exercises in a public square. Promise.
A tour works well as a team-building activity because people experience something together outside their normal working environment. You walk or cycle through the city,
discover new places, hear stories and have time to talk along the way. It is accessible, also for teams that are not looking for forced games or overly enthusiastic icebreakers.
Would you like more interaction, reflection or a specific theme? Then we can adapt the programme. For example around looking differently, collaboration, change, innovation or the city as a mirror for your organisation. But it can also simply be a well-organised afternoon with good stories, great food and drinks afterwards. That is perfectly valid too.
Then we look at what makes sense. We are based in Rotterdam, so we do not panic over a bit of rain. But we also will not pretend that sideways rain is “part of the charm”.
With light rain, a programme can often continue, sometimes with small adjustments. In case of bad weather, we look at alternatives: an adapted route, more covered stops, a shorter outdoor programme or a different format. For rooftop tours, storms or unsafe conditions, we do not take risks.
We think along practically and communicate clearly. The aim is not to force the original programme through at all costs, but to make sure the group has a good experience.
We are happy to think along. Whether you are looking for a short tour, a food experience, a rooftop programme or a fully arranged day programme, we help you create something that fits your group, timing and budget.
